Dynamic dancers move up on the streets

SANDTON – A Bryanston business noticed talented potential on a Sandton street corner.

Street dancers can be seen at busy intersections in Sandton dancing for drivers’ small change.

While the majority of drivers hardly notice these dancers, Bryanston resident, Candyce Simaan could not take her eyes off one specific dancing group. She explained, “I randomly came across a group of guys dancing on the corner of William Nicol and Republic Road a few weeks ago.

“They were extremely talented… with their shiny dance shoes and overwhelming enthusiasm.”
She added that she enjoyed their performance so much that she did not want the robot to turn green. She was determined to make a change in the life of these dancers and managed to pull over and obtain the leader’s cellphone number.

As a member of the pizza franchise, Andiccio24, she mentioned their talent to her marketing team, who saw an opportunity to empower the dancers. Their aim was to find a way for the dancers to earn a more stable income while displaying their talent.

“During the implementation of this project, we worked closely with [the dancers]… The parking lot at [the franchise in Bryanston], quickly became the rehearsing ground where the shopping centre came to a standstill, with everyone watching in awe as the guys put together their routine, practicing over and over again in this overwhelming heat until the routine was perfected.”

Simaan was struck by the professionalism of the dancers, who attended all of the practices on time, with enthusiasm and a desire to succeed. As a part of this empowerment project, the franchise designed outfits and props for the team.

D-day for their big performances was on 28 October. “The action took place on the corner of Republic and William Nicol roads, Bryanston, ironically the same place where the magic had begun a few months back. The dancing team brought laughter to many drivers, and even after a tough week at work, smiles were created all around.”

The routine was quite a spectacle and she explained that drivers were seen hooting, cheering and videoing the street entertainers. “They promoted the Andiccio24 Bryanston stores, handing out flyers to [drivers], and the stores had an overwhelmingly successful Friday night.

“It just shows that teamwork can create magic. The rest, as they say, is history.”

The dance team has now formed a permanent, authentic and dynamic part of the franchise’s team and assists them in promoting their stores around Johannesburg.

Simaan concluded, “With admiration and respect, Andiccio24 salutes the dancers, #ProudlySouthAfrican.”
