The KFC Mini-Cricket Kids of Fleur Primary School faced the Proteas before the national team’s KFC T20 international against Sri Lanka.

The second encounter in this season’s KFC Mini-Cricket Kids vs Proteas tour was moved from the field at SuperSport Park in Centurion to the indoor nets due to bad weather. The Proteas won the toss and elected to bat first. But they got off to a slow start with Reeza Hendricks and Heino Kuhn batting, thanks to good overs from Vanya van Wyngaardt and player of the match Inam Mayekiso. Kuhn was run out and Hendricks was caught after scoring only 10 runs in the opening partnership.

The Mini-Cricket Kids were happy that the Proteas could not find many gaps in the field after being given an extra fielding session by former Proteas player Neil McKenzie. The last batting pair for the Proteas, Dean Elgar and Dane Patterson, helped the Proteas reach a total of 51.

The KFC Mini-Cricket Kids got off to a quick start by taking quick ones and twos and often caught the Proteas off guard. The opening partnership was also helped by some very clever batting with the openers finding many unlikely gaps in the field.

The Proteas soon realised that the opposition was up for the task and had to pick up their game, and in the end the Proteas were just too good and managed to win the game by four runs.

Mayekiso took two wickets and scored 12 runs.
