Brescia House School’s Grade 5 class had the opportunity to Skype with an Eco Club at Sun Kei Primary School in Hong Kong.
The club consists of 20 children aged between 10 and 12, and their teacher, Warwick English who is from South Africa.
The purpose behind this activity was for the children to exchange information about their country and lifestyle.
Each group from both countries presented a short demonstration on one of six topics – an introduction to our country; an introduction to our school; everyday life at school; home life after school; hobbies on the weekend; indigenous food or wild animals.
The exchange was a valuable experience and there were surprised reactions to the concept of munching on chicken feet.
All the children expressed a keen interest in keeping up communication with one another via email.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about another culture and possibly to develop friendships with children from another continent,” said Deanna Kenyon, intermediate phase teacher at Brescia House School.
“We look forward to continued engagement with this school and exploring this avenue of learning with schools in other countries.”
