Solidarity would be the word for the actions that took place on 7 April, as men and women, young and old, political or non-political, all came together to show President Jacob Zuma that they will not tolerate his actions any longer.

Thousands of people marched against Zuma’s leadership and the DA press statement stated, “This is not a political matter. It is a matter of urgent national importance, which affects all of us as South Africans, and thus transcends party politics.”

A woman who wished to remain anonymous and who was present at the march said, “We have had enough and we want to show Zuma that we will not be pushed around anymore. I am proud to be a South African and I believe Mandela would have been proud too, what I saw today with the unity amongst us all makes me hopeful for our future.”

The cabinets reshuffle last week and the events that followed have evoked a movement amongst South Africans which was clearly evident on the day. The peaceful march saw thousands walk the Joburg CBD streets with an array of slogans. The march concluded with the of the DA, Mmusi Maimane speaking to the crowd and thanking them for their support.
