Kart racer, Kwanda Mokoena who attends Rivonia Primary School, set Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway on fire when he dominated the SA Mini Rok Cup.
Mokoena (13) was first across the line in all four races to take overall honours in the primary school class for the day.
He also raced in the high school age Motorsport South Africa (MSA) academy class, where he overcame an unsuccessful two races in the middle of the day to deliver a strong comeback in the final.
“Saturday was a very tough day for very different reasons in both Mini Rok and the MSA academy,” he admitted.

Mokoena, who has been racing since 2007 said, “I qualified on pole in Mini Rok but those races were as tough as ever. I was able to win all four, but I had a nose cone penalty in race three and it was no walk in the park and I had to fight off a very good field of drivers.”
He said that Kyle Visser, Daniele Patrizi, Leyton Fourie and Niklas Roos pushed him to his limits but it was a joy to be involved in such close, nail-biting action.
“I qualified fifth for the academy races and finished third in the first race after another great fight with my friends, but unfortunately I retired from the next two heats,” he explained.
“That was really tough, but that’s how it goes sometimes and I was happy to fight back to grab a few points in the final.”
