Kate Watson of Brescia House School has been awarded a bronze certificate for the second year in a row at the prestigious Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
The competition is the world’s oldest international schools writing competition and is run by the Royal Commonwealth Society in partnership with Cambridge University Press. Queen Elizabeth II is both the head of the Commonwealth and patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society.
The competition was open to all citizens and residents of the Commonwealth aged 18 and under.
The theme for this year’s competition was a Commonwealth for Peace and Watson entered the senior writing section with her essay entitled Passage to Peace.
When asked about her entry into this year’s competition, Watson said, “My essay was in the form of a diary format and it told the story of a South African girl, which was inspired by some of my life experiences.
“I wanted to not only address non-violence and political stability but also being at peace with one’s talents and situations.”
The school described Watson’s award for the second year in a row as a phenomenal achievement.
