Take back your greenbelt this Spruit Day

SANDTON – How to get involved in Spruit Day on 16 September.

Spruit Day is around the corner and residents are encouraged to step up and take part in the annual clean-up of the Braamfontein Spruit on 16 September.

Starting at 9am, the Community Policing Forum and the Bryanston East Community Forum will be stationed at Riverside Park, opposite the Riverside Shopping Centre, welcoming all to volunteer.

Volunteers from Community Hours SA plant trees at the Riverside Park in Bryanston on Spruit Day last year.
ADT will provide security for those cleaning up the Braamfontein Spruit on 16 September.

Chairperson of the Spruit Day organising committee, Meghan Perry, said, “This year, 24 residents associations and special interest groups will be involved in the cleanup together with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo – an encouraging increase from last year.”

Fidelity ADT reaction officers and operations staff will be stationed along the route to ensure safety throughout the day. The general manager of ADT Inland Region, Agnieszka Gryn said, “We have been involved in Spruit Day for the last few years and believe it is a great way to connect with our community in the area. We want to encourage residents to get involved and join us on the day.”

Here are some locations where you can lend a hand on Saturday:

  • Bryanston East Community Forum will meet near the 1st Rivertrail Scout Hall from 9am. A litter cleanup will take place south of the Scout Hall and the installation of 150 bollards along Hans Crescent riverine area to prevent illegal dumping, which occurs regularly in this area.
  • Bryanston Riverclub Community Forum will meet at Belgrave Bridge, Bryanston from 9am. You can register at https://mailchi.mp/5690c08eed68/brcf_spruitday_16_sept
