MAD Domestic Watch meeting dates released for Sandton

SANDTON – The MAD Domestic Watch dates for September have been released.

The Making A Difference (Mad) Domestic Watch meeting dates for September have been released.

Penny Steyn from Mad said the lesson this month is Money Matters.

“The Heritage Month lesson has an abundance of guidelines on money [related] crimes. Money scams, cellphone, computer and ATM crimes are abundant,” said Steyn.

She said Busi Skenjana writes Stokvel Voice and runs an academy to school those that invest in stokvels.

“Whilst this is considered the core cradle of Ubuntu values, there are so many money dangers.”

“It only takes one disgruntled member of these groups – who often gather in public spaces – to cause a calamity. This would include being followed to their employers’ homes and attacking them.

“This lesson covers good practices, investing wisely and implementing safeguards to prevent crimes.”

According to Steyn, there are 11.4 million stokvel members in South Africa with a total estimated value of R44 billion.

“Surely some of this can contribute to a better South Africa if managed wisely and not create crime.

“A total of 50 per cent or more of Mad is based on motivating those that attend to do more, to take their lessons seriously and implement what they learn. They will be spoiled and will enjoy the recognition they so richly deserve.”
