Varsity College in Sandton recently hosted their annual Mr and Miss Varsity College 2017 at the Movida Night Club in Rivonia.
Andrew Wooding and Tsholofelo Molefe were crowned Mr and Miss Varsity College Sandton this year.
All funds raised by this popular event will go to the IIE Varsity College’s 2017 national CSI initiative – The Qhubeka Education Project.
The Qhubeka project is an initiative that distributes bicycles to students, teachers and school volunteers to improve access to education, reduce travel time and improve educational outcomes. In the short term, bicycles reduce children’s exhaustion from walking to school and help them attend regularly. In the long term, bicycles will help children complete their education, preparing them for better jobs and reducing the likelihood of extreme poverty.
The theme of the evening was Throwback Thursday and was well supported by enthusiastic students and contestants. The Mr and Miss VC contestants really wowed the crowd with their ‘fashion statements’, which ranged from casual, club wear and formal attire.
Contestants also surprised everyone when they embraced the theme and made their appearance in tastefully adorned throwback outfits. The night was not only about the contestants, as the crowd was entertained by Twins on Deck, Stilo Magolide, Tee Nerd, Madeline Behrens, Chriss Beatz and hosts Ebenezer Dibakwane and Bahumi Madisakwane.
Oratile Matlapeng, IIE Varsity College Sandton PR and events coordinator said, “Thank you to our sponsors XRaymond, Forever21, Soo Milan, Movida Night Club in Rivonia and Paco Rabanne. This was a phenomenal event and it would not have been possible without the sponsors. We are very excited about the difference the funds raised by the event will make to underprivileged communities.”
“We raised R112 205 in total, as we had another charity event which was the VC Golf Day. With all this money raised, Qhubeka can purchase about 38 to 40 bicycles.”
