Local 14-year-old receives an offer from Novum publishing house in London

SANDTON – A Grade 9 of Crawford College Sandton recently received an offer to publish her first book.

Amy Walter in Grade 9 at Crawford College Sandton, at 14 years old has received an offer from Novum publishing house in London to publish her first book.

Amy started writing at around 10 years old, inspired by her gran who always managed to conjure up amazing stories.

She is dyslexic and this inspires her even more as she feels as if she is conquering what should hold her back, even if it means that the editor has to struggle through her spelling errors.

Amy loves to write fiction and writing gives her the opportunity to shape her own story. “Anything is possible in one’s own book,” she said.

The book is about a female assassin, Stella Grey. She lives in a kingdom that is divided by a wall. On one side of the wall, the kingdom of Atlantis thrives with the wealthy Blues (the people of Atlantis) who have powers, and on the other side of the wall, the kingdom of Avalon, populated by the Reds, withers away in poverty with its people having no powers. Grey is sent on a mission with her fellow assassins to Atlantis’ castle, to find a murderer who is using her master’s identity when killing.

Amy hopes the book inspires others who may have been labelled with something that may keep them from reaching their potential or who feel that they may not be good enough to reach their dreams.

“Age should not be a limit. If someone really believes in a dream, he or she should be prepared to fall for it and rise once again to reach it,” said Amy.

“You have your own story. Either live by someone else’s words or write your own.”
