The young adult working members of the World Mission Society Church of God recently conducted a clean-up campaign on Rivonia Road in Sandton.
The clean-up campaign forms part of the worldwide initiative that took place on 15 October.
A church official said, “Making a clean environment is the beginning of good health and the start of happiness. Young adult working members throughout the world made one mind to clean their community, city, nation and global village.”
The church’s young adult working members of Johannesburg, co-workers and neighbours gathered on Rivonia Road, Sandton where many offices are situated.
During the week the area has a high density of people and litter accumulates through the week.

The volunteers picked up the litter between buildings, packed cans, plastics, cigarette buds and paper. They also gathered litter between the shrubs and trees to clean the area which took about two hours.
In total, they collected around 50 plastic bags filled with litter.
Thando Matutu a member of the church said, “The love of Heavenly Mother allows us to love our neighbours, as the area of Sandton is one where people seek to make a good living, which causes them to drift towards individualism, but we hope through the teachings of Mother we can change the way they live, and live the way Heavenly Mother wants us to live.”
Wandle Mazibuko, another member of the church added, “Since I work in Sandton, I have been waiting for the church to come to Sandton and conduct its voluntary activities in the area. I hope that my colleagues, who work hard each day with me, can participate in the next clean-up campaign and realise the love.”

Ward 91 councillor Jeffrey Pietersen joined the campaign to give encouraging words to the members, “What I like about the church is that it teaches young people to care for their surrounding environment and people, it instils these qualities in young people which will enable them to be future leaders of society.”
On the same day, about 110 young adult working members from the Church of God in Cape Town and acquaintances held a clean-up campaign in Bree Street, Cape Town.
