#ICYMI: JRA works hard to repair potholes across the City following heavy rains

JOBURG – The Johannesburg Roads Agency assures the public that they are working hard to keep you safe on the roads this festive season.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has assured the public that they are working systematically to keep roads safe this festive season.

The regional operations teams will continue working to address emergency repairs, making dangerous road defects safe and carry our pothole repairs.

Operations will continue over the December and January holidays with scheduled maintenance, repairs of traffic signals and a dedicated team to address after-hour emergencies.

As a result of heavy rains over the last week, there has been an increase in potholes occurring citywide. Therefore, the agency is prioritising pothole repairs and is currently dealing with a significant backlog. The agency said that pothole repairs and road surfacing can only take place during dry conditions. The agency has ensured that where required, potholes will be made safe until favourable conditions return.

Member of the Mayoral Council for Transport, Nonhlanhla Makhuba said, “We are aware of the increase in potholes and sinkholes during and after the heavy rainfall. Efforts will be made to make safe these areas as soon as possible. We urge residents to alert JRA to road defects that could result in serious injury and accidents.”

Members of the public are advised to report dangerous road defects to the following regional operations numbers for emergency assistance over the festive season:

060 960 0764

  • Region B – Bryanston
