Excitement was high as matriculants entered Sandown High School to collect their matric certificates for the 2017 NSC exams.
The school had 85 children who wrote, of which 74 passed, with a pass rate of 87.05 per cent.
The acting principal at Sandown High School Phumzile Mbokazi said she is very excited and proud of everyone. “We have done well so far and we hope that 2018 will be better.”
Mbokazi advised those who did not pass that there are supplementary exams. “We hope that they will do well.”
One of the top achievers, Tshegofatso Mahlodi Maphaha achieved six distinctions in English, life orientation, maths, life sciences, geography and physical sciences.
Her advice for the 2018 matrics is to start early. “Use your teachers, they are there to help you, and always ask questions.
“Rest is also a key component and a healthy balance between personal and school life.”
Maphaha will study actuarial science at the University of Cape Town this year.
