EFF’s H&M protest sparks differing views
JOBURG – People voice their opinions following reports and footage of the EFF’s protest of H&M.
On Saturday afternoon members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) stormed H&M stores across Johannesburg. The protests are seemingly a response to the recent advertising campaign by the Swedish company.
Video footage of the protests showing members of the EFF destroying H&M’s property has surfaced on social media. The footage shows EFF members violently destroying merchandise at shopping centres in Menlyn, Sandton and Midrand.
Following reports and footage of the protests, people took to social media to voice their opinions on the EFF’s action. The protests have sparked differing views with some supporting the EFF and some objecting to the party’s violent actions.

EFF has scored a massive own goal. [And no, FYI, you are NOT more committed to bringing about an anti-racist society than the rest of us if you agree with EFF vigilantism. That’s a false test of commitment to fight racism.]

A smarter way in my view should be for the EFF to fight in Parliament for a policy that “sanctions” companies that have been found guilty of racism. Hit their pockets where it hurts the most

To those opposing how the EFF has decided to respond to the racism of H&M:
DO NOT TELL THE OPPRESSED HOW TO RESPOND TO THEIR OPPRESSIONS.
DO NOT TELL THE OPPRESSED HOW TO RESPOND TO THEIR OPPRESSIONS.
DO NOT TELL THE OPPRESSED HOW TO RESPOND TO THEIR OPPRESSIONS!

That @hm nonsense of a clothing store is now facing consequences for its racism. All rational people should agree that the store should not be allowed to continue operating in South Africa. Well done to Fighters who physically confronted racism. pic.twitter.com/cgdedYGoOj

H&M isn’t going to close. EFF is catching a lawsuit though.

The EFF didn’t ‘confront racism’ – you just thuggishly vandalized a store filled with workers who had nothing to do with the ad and are just trying to make a living.
How brave and principled, Cde… https://t.co/qhUJz6oacM— Alastair McAlpine (@AlastairMcA30) January 13, 2018
H&M also issued a statement stating that they were aware of the events and decided to temporarily close all stores in the area:
