Sister in Law workshop’s hope to empower women through legal knowledge
SANDTON – The workshop focused on educating women about a range of issues including child maintenance and estate planning.

An online platform which is dedicated to empowering women through legal education hosted its first workshop in Sandton.
Sister in Law was created last year by lawyer Tebello Motshwane to help women gain knowledge about a variety of legal issues they may face. Motshwane started her own legal consulting company in 2017 which focused on commercial law services. However, she wanted to create an online platform to help address the many questions she received without blurring the lines between her commercial offering and the knowledge that she provides.
To date, Motshwane has covered rental disputes, domestic violence, marriage, child maintenance, divorce, wills and estate planning.

Her first workshop, hosted at Werksmans Attorneys in Sandton, focused on many of these issues.
“The name of the workshop is ‘I am Lady Justice’ because the idea was that after that workshop every woman would leave empowered enough to be their own Lady Justice,” said Motshwane
Motshwane believes that there is still a great need for women to have a legal education and she hopes that through her platform she is able to assist women with the various legal concerns they may have.
“There were about 53 women who attended and the session was informative and extremely interactive. The afternoon then ended off with canapés and champagne networking session and ladies walked away having formed new friendships and business relationships.”

The workshop, which was a great success, will also be hosted in Cape Town in April.
“I believe the event really served as a personal development initiative because the information the ladies gained was invaluable. The ladies received a workbook to take home which also includes activities on how best they can apply what they learned from the workshop,” concluded Motshwane.
