Urban Warrior Boxing Gym hosted a boxing fundraiser for the Ban Animal Trading (Bat) organisation in Parkmore, on 23 March.
Owner of the gym, Lesley Flavell, said she was happy to host this event and is in full support of this initiative. “We usually host a couple of fundraisers a year, they are often successful and people undoubtedly show up in their numbers.”

The event raised R7 000 for Bat, a non-profit organisation based in Gauteng, which focuses on local investigations into various forms of animal abuse and neglect. They also educate South Africans on the rights of animals.
Representative from Bat Kathy Raffray said, “This is a cause close to my heart. I will do anything to protect animal rights and those who are in dire need. I am also grateful for the platform given to me to make this initiative work for the good of animals.”

The attendees of the event were excited to be a part of this initiative. They were all hyped up about doing what they loved. Gym trainer Sibusiso Mhalakza said, “I enjoy boxing and am grateful that people showed up in their numbers. Not only because I was training novices, but because boxing is an outlet tool not just for protection, but it plays emphasis on health and fitness.”
Novice Claire Herman was pleased to be a part of the event and said, “I knew absolutely nothing about boxing, but now I am leaving here with the basic skills of boxing. Who knew an uppercut was this complex? Regardless, this was the best experience.”
