A St Stithians College parent organised a memorable send-off for a beloved teacher following his retirement.
Spencer Allman, who has been a parent at the school for 16 years said that great teachers should be appreciated and he wanted to share his appreciation for Russell Williams, who had been at the school for 30 years.
Williams who taught at the Boys Prep School, bid farewell to the school during a final chapel service. During the farewell, Williams was presented with a framed photograph of the school to serve as a reminder of his many years of dedication to the school.
Allman said, “Great teachers should be appreciated. They truly do better young lives, shaping our boys into better people. ”
To celebrate his retirement, Allman organised a final parting gift with dozens of messages from former learners to share their appreciation for Williams – a small plaque with the words ‘With Love, Respect, and Appreciation’ on the bottom edge of the frame.
“Mr Williams had such a positive impact on our boys’ quest to learn and specifically pushing them to elevate their reading habits. That has inevitably cascaded into benefits across their entire education,” added Allman.
Some of the comments dedicated to Williams included, “A teacher not concerned just about textbooks or test but with instilling a true sense of pride and value in his boys.”
As well as, “It’s been great Mr Williams, you are what made my Grade 5 special. I will always cherish my memories of you, whether it be reading or enjoying Fridays”
Allman concluded that he hoped that Williams enjoys the same happiness in his retirement as he has given to so many young learners.
