Mandela day fundraiser raises R10 000 for 67 minutes

BRYANSTON – A New Hope Dog Rescue and Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) hosted a Mandela Day fundraiser and fun day at the Happy Tails Doggy Daycare.

 


A New Hope Dog Rescue and Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) Johannesburg, hosted a fundraiser and fun day in honour of Mandela Day at the Happy Tails Doggy Daycare in Bryanston on 13 July.

The community spent their 67 minutes raising funds for animal shelters and playing with the rescue dogs that are up for adoption. Each person had to bring a bag of dog or cat food as an entry to the event.

More than R10 000 was raised and there was an excellent turnout of about 100 attendees. “We are still in the process of counting the food that was brought but there are more than 100 bags of food which will be split between the charities,” said Laura Whittaker, the event organiser of Pets.

Attendees from all ages enjoyed the activities offered on the day including box painting and painting a mural wall, children made dog toys and there was a face painter. There were food stalls, drinks and treats as well as goods stalls from different charities.

There was a kissing booth where people could take photos with their furry friends who enjoyed all the love and attention they got from the attendees.

“We are overwhelmed by the support and generosity of everyone who attended Pets and A New Hope Dog Rescue Day event. What an awesome atmosphere we had with everyone keeping busy,” said Whittaker. “We have so many people to thank for making this day a huge success.”

India Greig, a volunteer and event organiser said it was always amazing to see people coming together to help animals. “From young to old everyone brought bags of food, participated in the cat box and toy making painted the mural and socialised with the New Hope puppies and Pets foster dogs. We are truly grateful,” concluded Greig.
