Family targeted by suspected robbers outside Buccleuch Primary School

BUCCLEUCH – Three suspects held up a father and son during an afternoon pick-up at school.

A young family was recently targeted by three suspects during a school pick-up outside Buccleuch Primary School.

On 6 August at about 2.20pm, Kambu Ngoma was fetching his son from school when three suspects held them at gunpoint and demanded they hand over their valuable items.

Ngoma explained that as he was approaching the primary school, he saw his son crossing the street and pulled over to the side of the road to pick up his son. Both he and his son noticed a white Hyundai Accent pull up behind him and make a U-turn. As the car turned around, three men got out of the vehicle and approached Ngoma.

Ngoma said that one of the men allegedly pointed a gun at his head while another man went to the passenger side and allegedly pointed a gun at a friend who was travelling with him. “I asked him to just take whatever they wanted, just please don’t hurt us.”

The men made off their phones and laptops as well as a Rolex watch worn by his friend. Ngoma said that he believes the men must have followed him to his son’s school. Earlier in the morning, he had met his friend at a restaurant in Bryanston for a meeting and the two then went to a clothing store in Woodmead.

He said that he believes the men must have followed them from one of these locations. The vehicle was spotted on CCTV footage and the license plate is being traced.

Buccleuch Primary School has offered counselling to Ngoma’s son and the Sandton Police Station has offered counselling services to Ngoma.

He added that his phone has a tracking option and was briefly turned on in Klein Street in Hillbrow but was then turned off again.

Captain Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, confirmed that a case of armed robbery has been opened at the station. He said, “The case is currently being investigated although no arrests have been made.”
