On the hunt for post office car license renewals
SANDTON – Don't get out your cards just yet because it looks like the Post Office is offline.

Earlier in August, the South African Post Office announced that it would now be accepting debit and credit cards as a payment method for the renewal of motor vehicle licenses but online payment facilities appear to be hard to come by.
When the announcement was first made, a list of branches who offer the service was made available by the Post Office but four out of the possible five branches in the Sandton area – Rivonia, Benmore, Bryanston, and Craighall – were offline for almost all of last week (week of 19 August). Wendywood, however, was working smoothly.
According to an employee who wished to remain anonymous, its particular branch had not been online since 17 August.

Paul Fouche, regional manager of the SA Post Office, later provided a refined list and the tally of available branches was reduced to two. “Before a post office can offer the MVL [motor vehicle license] service, it needs to be gazetted in the government gazette. The renewal equipment is the property of the Department of Transport,” Fouche added.
In a prior statement, the Post Office said that vehicle license renewals remained to be the most popular transaction at its branches, which is ‘clear evidence of the success of the service’.
Residents across the nation have, however, taken to social media to report that the facilities at their local branches remain offline.
“Malamulele (Limpopo) Post Office always offline,” Senzeni Chauke reported on Twitter.
“Please do not mislead us. Kloof Post Office says the system has not been working, so can only take cash,” Glen Robbins said on Twitter.
