Water ‘finally’ restored at Sandton Gautrain Station

The taps are once again flowing at the Sandton Gautrain Station as Gauteng MEC for Transport and Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo took to social media to announce that the water at the station had been restored.

“[The] water supply has finally been restored at Gautrain Sandton Station. The unnecessary drama is now behind us,” Mamabolo said.

The water supply at the station had been cut off by the City of Johannesburg on 6 September due to an unpaid R8-million utility bill. The City was ordered by the High Court last week to restore water services based on the argument that the R8 million was owed by Cedar Park and not the Gautrain itself. The City thus agreed to instal a separate water meter for the station.

According to Bombela Concession Company, it is pleased to finally be able to put this behind and solely focus on its commuters. “We would like to take the opportunity to once again apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience experienced since the water supply to the station was cut off by the City on 6 September 2019,” said Bombela spokesperson, Kesagee Nayager.

“Whilst we had made provision for portable ablution facilities at the station during this time, we know that this was not ideal and we are therefore pleased that all services at the station are now fully operational. We thank our passengers for their understanding and continued support over what was a trying time,” she concluded.
