Pipe replacement programme succeeds in Bryanston

BRYANSTON – Following a petition from Mill Hill residents about old aged pipes, Joburg Water has finally installed new pipes aimed at combatting water loss.

Residents of Mill Hill in Bryanston recently became the latest beneficiaries of the Joburg Water Pipe replacement programme. Following a petition submitted by the residents, Joburg Water commenced with the replacement of aged water pipes in the area in the beginning of the year.

The pipe replacement programme, spearheaded by MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Service Nico De Jager, is aimed at fighting water loss and improving the level of service to the residents by reducing pipe burst.

In collaboration with Mill Hill Residents Association, Joburg Water has replaced aged pipes with new ones which will last for years to come. The scope of the work covered includes the installation of new 110mm and 160mm diameter high impact UPVC class 16 pipes and horizontal dimensional drilling method to be used at all road crossings.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said he is delighted with the pipe replacements. “Not without challenges, the ultimate result is that the suburb now has new water pipes which should last for many years to come. The Mill Hill Residents Association is to be thanked for their on-the-ground involvement throughout the project. Water pipe replacement is messy and never pleasant. Ward 102 looks forward to further necessary water pipe replacements in other parts of the Ward in future budget cycles.”

Marketing and communications manager at Johannesburg Water Isaac Dhludhlu outlined the importance of working together with the community on such projects. “Communication with community leaders is crucial in order to address gaps and ensure support in all City programmes so as to avoid problems.”
