Evaluating the future of HR
SANDTON – The Sandton Convention Centre hosted recently hosted the HR Indaba Africa providing HR professionals with knowledge on how to upskill themselves.
Sandton Convention Centre was abuzz with human resource professionals, innovators and business exhibitors for the HR Indaba Africa summit on 16 October.
The summit attracted over 80 speakers who provided in-depth insight on how to reinvent themselves and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. HR professionals had the luxury of choosing from seven different breakout rooms where the speakers tackled different topics relating to the profession.
Providing the audience with skills and knowledge was the director of executive education and short learning programmes, at IIE MSA (formerly Monash South Africa) Professor Hendrick Klopper, who educated the audience on how to excel in their professions and how to grow with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Klopper encouraged the audience to upskill themselves and embrace change. “While giving my presentation and engaging with the audience, I noticed that they were more concerned with their job security, especially in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how they should position themselves. They should not become a product of technology but use technology to their advantage.”
Klopper also explained the possibilities of employees losing their jobs when the Fourth Industrial Revolution starts kicking in. “Because the Fourth Industrial Revolution requires different skill sets, there will be new problems to solve. If one is thinking that what they know now will be sufficient in future the answer is no. We must recognise the change and re-skill yourself in order to have jobs in future.”
HR Indaba Africa representative, Nick Smith said the event was of utmost importance for the industry professionals to learn more dynamics. “We’re really happy with the turnout and most importantly to the HR professionals who are here exchanging ideas and networking.”
