New president for Women’s forum

SANDTON – Newly appointed members of the International Women's Forum South Africa hope to address the issue of equality and GBV.

International Women’s Forum South Africa (IWFSA) announced their new board members at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on 17 October.

The group representing 100 members of the South African chapter of the International Women’s Forum, will be led by incoming president Irene Charnley, vice president Nolitha Fakude and board member Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe.

Unveiling the organisations renewed vision and strategic priorities, Charnley said, “We have a crucial role as women leaders to promote ethical leadership in our country and of being a leading voice for women leadership in business, government and society at large. We note in particular that a recent delegation of CEO leaders to visit President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss economic issues had not included a single woman, this needs to change.”

Charnley also stated that the organisation had a rejuvenated focus which was to be a powerful voice advocating issues that affected women across the board.

“It is simply not good enough for a business to continue to be silent on gender-based violence. We wish to underline the importance of economically empowering women and providing them with financial education, so that they have the ability to manage their own financial circumstances, without reliance on others.

“Women are an integral part of every facet of the economy and every business in this country. For a business to refuse to take action against gender-based violence is akin to the days in which they refused to denounce the evil of apartheid.”

International Women’s Forum South Africa members are:

  • Irene Charnley – president
  • Nolitha Fakude – vice-president
  • Lesego Sennelo – treasurer
  • Dot Field – secretary
  • Precious Moloi-Motsepe – board member
  • June Crawford – board member
  • Nomonde Mabuya – board member
  • Tryphosa Ramano – board member
  • Janine Hills – board member.
