UPDATE: 15 passengers transported to a nearby hospital following bus fire
FOURWAYS – Johannesburg Metro Police Department's spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said that traffic is being diverted at William Nicol Drive, past Witkoppen Road, Rivonia Road, and back onto the N1 as well as on the N1 South at Rivonia to avoid the obstruction.
UPDATE: 11 December, 9.30am
Speaking to the Fourways Review, attending paramedic Karien Naude from Emer-G-Med said that a number of the passengers did not have shoes on when they were getting off the bus to escape the flames so some had injuries, mostly underneath their feet.
“We counted 15 passengers that were injured. We then transported the 15 to a nearby hospital. The other two did not agree to being transported”
Naude confirmed that most passengers were suffering from smoke inhalation but they were being treated. She also said that the injuries were mostly moderate but none were critical.

“All the passengers have been removed from the bus,” Minnar said, adding that they are not sure as to how the fire started but an investigation has been launched.
He added there was a possibility that the bus exploded, so the necessary emergency and fire services were at the scene to monitor the situation.
