In an effort to clamp down on lawlessness and ensure that the rule of law is maintained in the City of Johannesburg, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) took Operation Buya Mthetho to the city’s street.
The metro department held a roadblock on the N1 South near the Buccleuch interchange on 4 January.
The roadblock was conducted by JMPD’s Freeway and Tracing Unit. If you drink and drive, there is a big possibility that you will be arrested,” said JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar. Operation Buya Mthetho has seen a number of law enforcement agencies come together to make the city a safer place.

Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Gauteng Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo later joined the operation. Mamabolo has actively taken steps to interact with various agencies to enforce the law and make the roads safer for all.
“I would like to appeal to road users, especially motorists, to exercise caution and drive responsibly to save lives on our roads. This is in anticipation of high traffic volumes that are expected from this weekend,” Mamabolo said.
