Learners venture to Mount Toubkal

MORNINGSIDE – Learners from the French International School Lycée Jules Verne and Children of the Dawn organisation venture to conquer Mount Toubkal in Morocco.

The French International School, Lycée Jules Verne, and the Children of the Dawn organisation bid a short farewell to its learners who will conquer their fears and climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco. This will be the fifth year that the school in Morningside has supported and collaborated with the organisation.

Masabulone Setai and Philani Mkhonza from the organisation have joined a group of Grade 10 and 11 learners from the school for the Moroccan Atlas on 4 February.

Mount Toubkal is a mountain peak in south-west Morocco. It is also known as the highest peak in North Africa measuring at 4 169 meters. The learners look forward to snow and below zero temperatures.

To prepare for this adventure, the group of 15 tackled the 31km Ribbok Trail at the Golden Gate National Park in the Free State.

Both Masabulone and Philani are anxious to begin this new chapter. “I am very excited to go to Morocco, it will be a new challenge for us,” Masabulone said.

Last year the group, accompanied by Lycée Jules Verne teachers, took on Mount Kenya – the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro.
