If you were president, what would you tackle in the State of the Nation Address?

JOHANNESBURG – Residents give their opinion and thoughts on what they would discuss at the State of the Nation Address if they were given a chance.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will give South Africans an update about the progress of affairs at the State of the Nation Address (Sona) tonight, 13 February in Cape Town, as well as discusses critical matters in the country.

The Fourways Review asked members of the public what they would address at the Sona if they were president of South Africa. Here’s what they had to say…

GUGU STYELA: Deregulate the system. When you look after business people, they will be able to help out in terms of jobs. Start at the grassroots level in terms of employment.

 

CAROLINE RAMPHELE: I would be focusing on the state of conditions in rural schools and their water situations. I’d also look at the rate of unemployment in South Africa.

 

JOELENE WESSELS: I would look at getting our health [system] up to date, so we do not have to go to hospitals that don’t have beds and make medical care accessible to all.
KARABO SEBELA: I would address the current issue with the violence against women and children. There may be some initiatives in place improving the matter but I feel like it’s not enough.
