Parkrun comes to Bryanston
SANDTON - Runners and walkers, both professionals and beginners, were all welcomed to the first Bryanston Parkrun on 25 January.
The day kicked off at 7am outside the Riverside Shopping Centre, where hundreds gathered for the day’s event. South African athlete Bruce Fordyce addressed the crowd before the run at 8am. Fordyce thanked the sponsors as well as the volunteers for their joint initiative to start a parkrun in Bryanston. Ann and David Ashworth of the Born2Run Athletics Club were the volunteers responsible for organising the event.
Interested participants and runners in the area have been encouraged to sign up and join the Saturday parkrun sessions. “Parkruns are steadily becoming a growing interest for communities all over the world and it is a friendly and non-intimidating event that everyone can take part in,” said Fordyce. The 5km run will continue to take place every Saturday.
