Club runners take on Brussels Marathon
SANDTON - Born 2 Run Athletics Club tested its strength in the international running arena by sending a team of five runners to compete in the Brussels Marathon.

The Sandton-based club supports athlete development in South Africa, and the Brussels Marathon presented the club with an invaluable opportunity to compete in an international event and to offer members of the club exposure to a world-class marathon.
The club’s athletes, Clayton Vetter, Trad Cruickshank, Phillipe Welthagen, Ann and David Ashworth competed strongly at the marathon, earning themselves two top 10 spots and three personal best times.
The club’s chairman, David Ashworth, congratulated his wife, one of the club directors, who placed second overall in the women’s 42.2km race in a time of 2:57:00
David, who was placed eighth overall in the men’s 42.2km race, finished in a time of 2:37:00.
“Special mention should be made of Trad Cruickshank who achieved a personal best time of 2:55:00, running a seven minute negative split where the second half of the race is faster than the first half of the race, to finish in 31st position in the men’s 42.2km race,” said Ann.
She added that the club planned to schedule a visit to one international marathon each year and was currently considering which race to attend next year.
