The tournament, now in its third year, kicked off on 14 August and will see schools from across the country take part in riveting cricket matches against the Proteas, all in a bid to get schoolchildren more active.
Mike Middleton, chief marketing officer for KFC South Africa, expressed excitement at the return of the tour to schools around the country.
“We are once again thrilled to bring the KFC Kids vs Proteas Tour to schools and pupils across South Africa, and this year the tour promises to be bigger and better than ever before,” he said.
“We are proud supporters of cricket in South Africa and are committed to giving all kids the opportunity to get active and closer to their cricketing heroes.”
Part of the excitement in this year’s tour is the inclusion of three cricketing heroes including Graeme Smith, Neil McKenzie and Mfuneko Ngam, who will all continue in their roles as coaches.
Smith, also the former captain of the national cricket team, added his sentiments to the upcoming clash between the children and the Proteas. “The pressure is on and kids all over the country are hard at work in their preparations to take on the Proteas. This is a rivalry which goes back three years and I know neither side will want to be on the losing end of the tour come February next year,” he said.
Middleton concluded by wishing the mini-cricket kids luck in their bid to win a chance to take on the Proteas in the tournament. Any primary school can enter and stand a chance to play the Proteas by sending an SMS or visiting the KFC Mini-Cricket website.
The tour will run until 18 February next year and will also see one school from Gauteng, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal host and take on the Proteas.
