Inaugural Discovery Duathlon a success

SANDTON – Adults and kiddies converged on Sandton for the inaugural Discovery Duathlon.

The multi-sport event took place on West Street and was part of the company’s aim to encourage active participation in sports.

Taryn Kerr, reputation management consultant at Discovery, lauded the large participation in the duathlon with more than 2 000 participants.

“Usually sports such as duathlons are seen as elite sports, but we wanted to dispel that and make it an enjoyable event for people,” she said.

Kerr added that hosting the multi-sport event was part of the company’s shift in strategy to focus more on them and try to cater for the different demographics.

“We’re also planning to host a triathlon in Cape Town soon, but at this stage, nothing has been finalised and more information will be available on this in the near future,” she added.

The gruelling main duathlon event included a 10km run, a 40km cycle and another 5km run around Sandton for the adults; and a fun duathlon for kids which was hosted in conjunction with entertainment company Disney.
