Getting ready for some amazing golf at the Chase to the Investec Cup

SANDTON - As some of the country’s top golfers prepare for the Chase to the Investec Cup, the company held the tournament draw on 4 March.

The tournament is one of the staple events in the Sunshine Tour calendar and gives South African amateur golfers the opportunity to play alongside some of the top professionals. The draw was held at Investec’s head office in Sandton to determine which amateur golfers would be teamed with the country’s top professional golfers.

The tournament will be held from 9 to 12 March for the men’s competition and 10 to 12 March for the women’s.

The event was attended by a plethora of names from the golfing and business worlds including rising golf star Bertine Strauss who assisted in the draw.

Commissioner and executive director of the Sunshine Tour, Selwyn Nathan, said much had changed since last year’s competition. “Last year we had 30 players and 30 guests,” he said.

“This year we have 16 players and 16 guests. In the ladies competition, there will 10 players… The main difference is that there will be more money that the players will compete for.”

In the women’s event, there will be a pool prize fund of R1 million; while the men’s will have a pool prize fund of R4 million.

Nathan added, “The Investec Cup has become synonymous with the end of the Sunshine Tour like the Fed-Ex Cup has been the season-ending event on the US tour and the Race to Dubai has been the finish for the European Tour.

“We’re in our fourth year and it’s a fantastic test of golf which will be held at Millvale Private Retreat. People will be able to see some amazing golf.”
