Saints fest rocks Sandton

SANDTON - The pupils of St Stithians College and visitors enjoyed an entertaining Easter weekend at the school’s annual Easter Sports Festival.

 

The festival saw competitors from 40 schools including from Botswana taking part in a variety of sports such as rugby, basketball, hockey, tennis and squash among others. The festival celebrated its 33rd year of rugby and 15th year of hockey with more than 150 fixtures over the four-day festival.

Principal of the college Tim Nuttall said, “The Easter Sports Festival is a major highlight in our calendar and an opportunity for the St Stithians community to live out our intent to inspire excellence and to make a world of difference.”

Beginning on 24 March with the highly anticipated tennis tournament, St Stithians came out victorious at the end of the festival. The college ended up at the top of the table 355 points ahead of Pretoria Boys’ High School (288) and Grey College Bloemfontein (271).

The opening rugby match was between Clifton School and St Alban’s College with the latter winning 0 – 35. Another exciting rugby game was between the hosts and Durban High School with the Durban team narrowly winning 17 – 16.

The home rugby team bounced back with a 46 – 21 win against Clifton School. The highlight of the hockey tournament was a nail-biting affair between Bishops Diocesan College and Pretoria Boy’s High School with the boys from Pretoria winning 3 – 2.

The school grounds were jam-packed with fun activities and incredible food with each day ending in live entertainment from local DJs Chunda Munki and Vin Deysel.
