Sports fun for Vuleka SSB

Sandton - Vuleka SSB High School were able to put together a fun-filled sports day with the help of Blairgowrie Primary School.

Vuleka SSB High School in Bordeaux does not have its own sports fields.

It is for this reason, that they were exceptionally grateful when Blairgowrie Primary School allowed them to use their sports fields for an informal sports day.

Lizbe Pieters, the school’s headmistress, said the Vuleka SSB staff are constantly looking for opportunities to get the pupils involved in sports activities wherever possible. Pieters added that they aimed to develop the pupils holistically and feel that sport is an integral part of this process.

The pupils were divided into four houses and the anticipation and excitement began to build up for the big day with war cries and chants being practised during allotted times of the school day to build team spirit.

Anneliese van der Berg, the Vuleka extra-curricular co-ordinator, organised four main events which included sprinting, netball games and soccer games. The pupils earned points for individual participation, points for where they were placed in their sprint events and points for goals scored.

As the day drew to an end, the pupils and staff engaged in friendly soccer and netball matches against each other. Van der Berg said it was a wonderful way to build up relationships outside of the classroom. Both the pupils and staff members were pleased with the outcome of the sports day.
