New things coming to Sandton Sports Club
SANDTON – The Sandton sports Club has seen some major developments in the past few years and there is more to come.
The Sandton Sports Club is busy with various upgrades at the club to provide more options to the community.
Gia Sinclair, committee member at the club said one of the big developments was a high-performance fitness centre with a lot of outdoor focus and will offer yoga, pilates, biokinetics and physio.
“It will be really complimentary to all the sports sections we offer from a training and recovery perspective,” said Sinclair.
Andrew Harris, a committee member said the fitness activities would be provided by an external service provider.
He highlighted that they were in the process of starting a cricket coaching facility that would be a high-performance cricket and coaching centre for children. The long-term goal was to start a senior cricket section with upgraded cricket pitches and to start hosting cricket matches. Harris said the gym would be up-and-running by next year. “We are also in the process of creating more parking at the club and will be creating another 300 parking bays in the future.”
There will be about 650 parking bays in all.
According to Sinclair, the current membership is about 90 members but they hope to attract more members with the upgrades.
Harris added that they have plans for more features at the club which would include an endurance performance club that will offer running, cycling and triathlon.
Ryan Kalk, another committee member at the club said they were busy building a beach volleyball court which would be completed in a few weeks time. “It used to be offered at the club and we want to bring it back,” he said.
Sinclair concluded that they were looking for volunteers to help the committee with various projects.
