The first Ladies Open of the year at Bryanston Country Club

BRYANSTON– Ladies golf teams from all around the northern suburbs had their first open at Bryanston Country Club.

Great weather and fantastic greens were the order of the day for the first Ladies Open of the season.

Bryanston Country Club welcomed women golfers from all over Joburg North to show their stuff on the fairways.

Captain of the Bryanston team Bronwen Lambert gave Sandton Chronicle some insight into the event.

“We have the Ladies Open every month and it’s a time when ladies from their golf clubs around the area join in the festivities,” she said. “It’s a lovely opportunity for us to meet other ladies from other clubs and usually in turn when we go to their clubs when it’s their open. So it’s all about fellowship amongst the ladies.”

Lambert was satisfied with the attendance at the event.

“It was a good day, we normally have a bigger turnout, it’s the beginning of the year but I was very pleased with the number of ladies that joined us.

“Traditionally it is a month where people are still getting back to work, getting to school, getting back into their routine. We had 65 ladies playing so I was very happy with that.”

And it was the hosts who won the four-ball event.

“We play a four-ball line, which means you play in a four-ball team and two scores to count on each hole, and yes there was a winner this month, it was our Bryanston team that won and we’re so happy with the results.”

As captain of the club this year, Lambert sees it as a thrilling experience.

“It’s a huge opportunity and great privilege to be the captain at Bryanston Country Club. It’s a prestigious club. My expectations for the year are to maintain the standard and lifestyle of the Bryanston Country Club.”

She added that she intended to put her personal stamp on her captaincy this year.

Describing golf as a game you play against yourself, Lambert said she had made many friends during her six years in the sport.

“It’s a real great way of making friends and networking, I’ve made a wonderful circle of golfing friends. It really just changed my life, it’s been such a fun experience.”
