Badgers rearing to go

BRYANSTON – Local rugby organisation goes from strength to strength after hitting the 'year two' mark.

The Bryanston Honey Badgers will bare their teeth in their second year of rugby.

One year old and the club is already growing from strength to strength, and will host an open day clinic from 9am to 11am on 15 February.

When the club started, it catered for U7s to U13s, now it goes up to U18 level and has a girls’ section too. Last year some players were chosen for Golden Lions rugby teams.

Furthermore, the club’s Level 1 coaches have started working towards their level 2 qualifications and the club plans to form its own medic unit.

“I would like us to continue to meet with the members’ expectations by the maintenance of the club to the highest standards, growing member numbers further and to grow the number of disciplines,” chairperson Anthony Losco said.

“I would also like to see growth in player numbers, a successful start to our girls’ rugby programme, growth in support towards and from the community, expansion of disciplines offered like the growth in members taking part in the cross country events.”

“We have started up the girl’s rugby division and expect that we will have the largest number of female players locally. This division has already shown massive potential with 47 members between the ages of 14 and 18 showing intentions of taking part.”

All coaches are volunteers and receive no funding, merely doing what they do for the love of the game. Losco hopes more volunteers will help at the club and attract more development players.
