Biking brings hope to Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT- The Diepsloot Mountain Bike Academy held their annual Christmas party at Northern Farm, outside Diepsloot.

The academy was founded eight years by Simon Nash and it is a ray of hope to the youth of Diepsloot. Nash said, “Eight years ago when we started the academy the buzzwords that were flying around the cycling industry were ‘transformation’ and ‘development’. We started the academy in Diepsloot as a response to that.” The Christmas party celebrated the hard work the riders have done throughout the year, and was also an opportunity to reward outstanding members of the academy. While the day started with a last ride through Northern Farm to mark the end of the year, it culminated with a prize-giving. The star of the academy, William Mokgopo, was chosen as a member of Team Absa to ride in the Absa Cape Epic next year (‘Absa announces team for Cape Epic’, Fourways Review, week ending 12 October.) Mokgopo won most exemplary member at the prize-giving, while Methoa Mabasa won most improved member and Prayer Mbolawa won female rider of the year.
