The quaint gallery, owned and managed by Colin Sutcliffe, is located in Morningside and hopes to impressive with its artwork.
Sutcliffe explained that the gallery was initially a photographic studio and was inherited along with the house when he purchased it. He then decided to transform it into a gallery and open it to the local community, and to that end hosted an exhibition at his house.
“I have known Ian Stewart [the artist] for over 50 years and when he approached me about hosting an exhibition to showcase his work and test the waters, I simply could not refuse,” he said.
Sutcliffe added that after the initial success of the exhibition he decided to host more of them and invite people to come view the gallery.
He also stressed that, with the exhibitions, the hope was to expose the local community to the gallery and get them to view some of the pieces on offer.
“We want to make this gallery work for the locals and expose them to the incredible talent of these artists,” he said.
As the gallery was a new venture for Sutcliffe, getting everything going was a process, but one Sutcliffe welcomed despite never owning a gallery before.
Sutcliffe has an established career as an actor and television presenter, a passion he still maintains.
Studio Gallery is located at 26 Marikana Crescent and is open on weekends from 10am-1pm, but private viewings can be arranged.
