It has been reported by a number of weather services that there would be severe cold weather this coming weekend – even with threats of thunder showers and snow in some parts of the country.
This weekend will be the third consecutive one that has promised to bring an icy chill to the country.
The upcoming cold front is a cut-off low-pressure system that will cause the temperatures to drop to a low of 2 degrees and a high of 17.
A cut-off low-pressure system can be described as weather patterns that do not follow the regular or prevailing weather patterns, and rather cuts off from the westerly flow circulation, bringing cold weather and often rain.
Snow Report SA on Facebook has been keeping users up-to-date on weather conditions, even posting pictures of the snowy conditions on the Lesotho and Drakensberg mountains, and continuing into the Eastern Cape.
By the end of Thursday, it is expected to be very cold, with Friday and Saturday bringing more cold and rainy weather to Gauteng.
Brace yourselves Joburg, you’re in for a weekend filled with hot chocolate and movies indoors and under covers.
