The session, hosted at the home of Read to Rise ambassador Rene Roberts-Patel, saw 200 books covered which will be distributed to Grade 3 pupils in Naledi, Soweto.
These books form part of a massive contribution of 6 700 books made during July by the Liberty Group, to various schools across Africa.
Steve Tsakiris, project manager of Read to Rise Gauteng, explained that the covered books would be distributed to the schools identified by the organisation.
“We also do reading programmes with the pupils and deliver mini libraries to the classrooms for them to make use of,” he said.
Tsakiris said all these programmes form part of the organisation’s desire to encourage kids to read more.
He encouraged residents to contribute towards improving literacy by contacting him or visiting the organisation’s website. Read to Rise is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting youth literacy in schools in South Africa’s under-resourced communities.
