Parkmore road closures approved

PARKMORE - Parkmore road closures given the go-ahead.

The newly-erected road closures in Parkmore have recently been approved by the Johannesburg Roads Agency and are in full operation to better the community.

Deputy chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association, Kate Wardle said, “The two road closure schemes in operation in Parkmore have been approved and inspected by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). All opening and closing times are standardised.

“Gates and booms will be open during peak times. During other times, the gates will be closed but you can make use of the seven booms in the suburb. Access is not restricted to residents only.”

Entirely driven by volunteers, with money collected from residents, the initiative took three years to fully become established. Wardle said the aim of the project is to increase communal safety by detering criminals and reduce dangerous driving.

Marketing and communications manager of the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “Please note that the road closures approved by council within the Parkmore area were all evaluated by the JRA’s traffic engineering department from a traffic point of view and we are satisfied that the impact to traffic will be minimal.

“The majority of the booms are to be left in an open and upright position during the morning, midday and afternoon peak hours to ensure smooth traffic operations.”

The standard gate hours will open to traffic from 6am to 9.30am and 3pm to 7.30pm on weekdays while on weekends they will be open from 8am to 1pm.
