Funding and awareness were raised for three wildlife protection non-profit organisations on 29 June at the Wild Lifeline Fundraiser hosted at Morningside Country Club.
Just over R40 000 was raised through ticket sales and auctions. One of the event organisers, Alex Parkins said, “About 175 people attended the event and it was great to create awareness for these non-profit organisations.”
People who attended the event enjoyed a finger supper in a heated tent outside the clubhouse. They were given a K9 anti-poaching demonstration by the Pit-Track K9 Anti-Poaching and Conservation Unit, where a pit bull attacked a ‘poacher’ and a man who was ‘mugging a woman’.

Representatives from the three NPO’s gave presentations about their work and proceeds from the event were divided among them. They included Pit-Track, devoted to the preservation of all water, flora, fauna and animals with prioritisation to endangered species; Captured In Africa Foundation, which aims to mitigate and safeguard lions and other wildlife in the wild and captive situations; and Saving the Survivors, which cares for rhino and other wild animals that have fallen victim to poaching.
The event was put together by Trichology, a division of the Morningside Country Club that merges faculties of sport, wildlife conservation and business. Trichology founder, Barry Bartlett said, “We aim to preserve our natural heritage, which is dying fast. Trichology was developed out of the idea of getting the club involved in more than just sport.” Members pay R100 per year and participate in helping to raise funds for wildlife conservation organisations.
Natasha Ferreira, who attended the event, said, “I know Drew [Abrahamson] from the Captured in Africa Foundation and I have been involved with ‘Walking for Lions’ so, coming to this event is a way of me supporting her. People need to be made aware of the plight of these animals. This is an authentic organisation and you can be assured that your money is going to the right place and not being lost along the way.”

Izak de Villiers, who also went to the event because of his association with Abrahamson, said, “It is difficult to find people who you can be comfortable giving your money to, but with Captured in Africa Foundation, I can see where my investment goes.”
