Residents recently took part in a Microtia Awareness Walk at the Morningside Country Club.
The walk, which took place on 29 September, was to create awareness and raise funds for children born with microtia.

According to Viola Nwadike, founder of Give An Ear Foundation, who organised the event, microtia is a condition where a child is born without an ear and/or ear canal.
The 5km route went through the leafy suburbs and back roads on Rivonia which was followed by a family picnic.
Nwadike said more people joined during the picnic where representatives from hearing aid manufacturers and a specialist spoke. “Basically teaching about the latest technology in hearing aid implants and ear reconstruction.
“The purpose of the event is to create awareness for microtia as a condition and also for children and families to interact with one another and not feel like they are alone.”
