On Friday 8 March, selected Grade 11 physical science students had the privilege to participate in the first day of the 2019 Wits Integrated Experience in Science, Commerce and Engineering programme at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Keldon Schroeder, Wanangwa Nyasulu, Mark van der Poel and Matthew Cheng were the representing members for the St Stithians Boys’ College team in this event spanning over two days – the information day on 8 March and the presentation day in April.
The assignment is to investigate a major air crash and devise new ideas in improving the technology and safety of current and future aircraft.
Lectures and hands-on activities in aeronautical engineering, chemical and metallurgical engineering, hydrogeology, commercial law and management, computer science and applied maths were on the programme for the first day. On 26 April the boys will present their findings on air crash causes and prospective solutions to the problem.
