Kids explore space through an interactive puppet show at the Bryanston Library

BRYANSTON – Puppeteer Ann Parker puts on a show educating children about space and gravity.

The Bryanston Library was abuzz with activity as young children eagerly anticipated a space-themed puppet show to end the year off in style.

The Friends of Bryanston Library sponsored an educational puppet show by Ann Parker, which attracted 64 children between the ages of three and nine.

Parker’s interactive show taught children about gravity and allowed them to imagine journeying to the moon with puppet friends. “The point of my shows is to get children involved and allow them to imagine themselves in outer space, building excitement and expectation,” said Parker, adding that she was impressed with the children’s knowledge of the planets.

Sally Smith of Friends of Bryanston Library invites parents to allow their children to join the Bryanston Library Book Club in order to stay up to date with the latest books.

To join, locals should pay an annual amount equivalent to the price of a new book. “It’s a cheaper way of having a book club and we encourage families to visit our monthly book sales on the first Saturday of every month from 9am to 12.30pm,” said Smith.

Smith explained that The Friends of Bryanston Library sponsors events like the puppet show in order to get more foot traffic in the library so that parents and children can explore the books on offer. “We want to encourage reading and allow kids to value storytelling and books,” said Smith.

Community members are also invited to join the puzzle club and storytelling sessions at the library.
