Practice safety and awareness

SANDTON – Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones warns residents to always be aware of their surroundings.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones would like to appeal to the community to remain vigilant at all times when driving.

The call comes allegedly after the victims reported incidents of being robbed of their jewellery. “The victims allege that the suspect/s approaches them while they were about to enter their premises whereby the possibility of being followed up could not be ruled out,” she said.

“This might end up with suspect/s forcing you into the house and which will end up being a house robbery or even victim/s being hurt,” Jones added.

She appeals to the community to always observe their surroundings while driving. “If you are being followed, call the police immediately. If the situation does not allow, drive to the nearest police station for assistance. When going shopping or for a cup of coffee, please let’s minimise – if not stopping – to wear expensive jewellery.”

Jones added that residents should continually test their security systems, ensuring that they are in perfect working condition. “Link your electrical fence to your alarm system.”
